For Anderson Columbia Co. Inc intern Connor Weeks, however, his experience being a part of a road crew was anything but.
     “I learned a lot about the construction industry; there’s a lot more to it than I thought there was,” Weeks said.
     Weeks interned with the company from June 2020 to August 2020 with ACCI superintendent Jeff Stemple.  During which he worked on road projects on Highway 351 in Cross City, Florida, U.S. 129 in Bell, Florida and Newberry Road in Newberry, Florida.
     He handled equipment, removed old reflectors from roadways and operated the maintenance-of-traffic cone truck.  He took on anything Stemple threw at him, he said.
   The twenty-year-old said he enjoyed seeing how all aspects of the road construction process worked.  From tearing the road apart, to putting in different lifts of asphalt to put it back together, he appreciated all areas of infrastructure construction and roadway rehabilitation.
           “Every day I learned something different,” he said.
     Weeks recently accepted a full-time electrician position at Duke Energy Corporation, which he starts this month.
           With his ACCI internship piquing his interest in the construction industry, he said he would consider coming back to work for the company if something changed with his current job.  When referring to the owners of the company, CEO Joey Anderson III and Co-Chair Doug Anderson, he said they are exceptional and hard-working people.
     “I like the snot out of them,” he said.]]>
